Craft Barn Alpha Dictionary Challenge Time!

Another fortnight has gone by and it's time for the next letter in the Craft Barn challenge. Y was indeed a challenge! If you are wondering what I'm talking about just click here to see find out more and share in some fabulous art inspired by dictionary definitions! Back to the letter Y. I had a really good friend staying this weekend on her way to participate in a story-telling course in the heart of the Sussex countryside. This may have been at the back of my mind when I chose the word 'Yggdrasil'!

This in Norse mythology is the name given to 'The World Tree' that has its roots in the Norse Underworld and branches that reach to heaven. I used yellow to highlight my design on my journal spread - hope I used enough, as yellow had to be part of our artwork!

Here is a close-up of my definition. Just click on the images if you would like to see more detail. I used Fresco paints in Baltic Blue, Zesty Zing and Hey Pesto and Tinned Peas! I also used collage images, which I painted and distressed and  reduced prints of my own art-work along with drawing in black and gold marker.

 Once again I had lots of fun adding painted and stamped masking tape to my pages.

I imagined the Nordic goddess Freya and here is my portrait of her from my imagination.

This journal spread, as well as being my contribution to the Alpha/Dictionary challenge this fortnight, will be a memory of two lovely days spent with an old friend, talking about myths and stories! I think it was Muriel Rukeyser who said, 'The world is not made of atoms, but of stories'.
