WOYWW - Clarice!

Hello, my lovely followers and friends, it's that time of the week again! Crafters all over the globe offer you a chance to spy on what they have been up to - thanks to Julia who gathers us together and runs the best blog hop I know. Click Here if you want to find out more and join in!
What's on my work desk at Magpieheaven as we trundle into another week of wondering when Kevin will have crafted our kitchen doors; if and when my mum's house sale will go through; will I get round to commenting on all the wonderful blogs I want to and - most important - how can I sneak in some crafting time!? This reminds me of those Batman TV episodes in the sixties when they used to leave you with a whole heap of questions as to how Batman and Robin would get out of some impossible dilemma!!! Well, all things are possible in Magpieheaven! I finished making my little rocking horse, which I'm posting hopefully on Friday and the lovely card I received from Kezzy I'll post when she returns from her holiday. I've decided to have a go at a memo board for my new kitchen and I was inspired by a couple of artists (Suzz and Darcy) over at Paper Artsy - and also - well - is my coffee a clue?
It's the mug I usually have my crafting cuppa in. It's a Past-times - now no more - imitation of Clarice Cliff: I don't have the real thing. I know she isn't everyone's cup of tea - if you'll forgive the weak joke - but I rather like her quirky creations! I would like to use her colours and shapes as a theme in my new kitchen - OK, I can dream, can't I? I really do believe it's going to be finished before Christmas! Here's what's on my desk...
I've die cut some shapes and I'm playing and painting and positioning bits at the moment. Paper Artsy Frescos come in some colours that really do match up with those on the cup. The basic shape of the house is cut from MDF with a Jig-saw and I cut out a bit in the centre for my memo board to fit under. This piece of MDF was actually from the surround to our old kitchen cupboard doors. I hope it looks like a CC country cottage! When my daughter saw it she said 'What's it supposed to be?' I plan to Crackle it and add some stamps on tissue - tune in  to see how the caped crusader Magpie-woman takes on her arch nemesis - the Time-thief wielding only a large jug of lemonade! You might need to see earlier posts to make head or tail of that comment! In the meantime I'm hopping into the virtual Magpie-mobile and heading off to look at some other desks! I was hopeless at my plan of taking a look at everybody's last week - Time just caught up with me and clipped my wings! Will I fare better this week?

  4. Good luck!
Love the CC beaker and I remember seeing a CC rubber stamp somewhere? Don't think I have it, maybe I just used it once or twice when I was at the shop I used to do workshops for. Good luck with the kitchen memo board, I look forward to seeing it complete.
Hugs, Neet 25 xx (thanks for visiting me earlier)

  10. I see ya got the ole cuppa out. I'd give my back molars to come have an actual cup with you. School started this week, and getting into a routine is going to be TOUGH!!!! My son catches his bus at 6 am. I think there is something so very wrong with that. I homeschool Bridget, so we are having to really find our pace. It's really tough after vacation, cuz she still has the comfort of home. Here's my address:

Thank you again Julie Ann for being such a great friend. Your words of encouragement mean a great deal to me. You have a full plate all your own, but you didn't hesitate to throw me a floatie. That is the sign of a true heart. How lucky are we that we get to be surrounded by people of that caliber from week to week. Much Love & ((((HUGS))) & kisses and all the mushy friend stuff!!! :) HAPPY HUMP DAY!!!

  15. That looks very interresting. I find it almost impossible to visit all the workdesks, so I try and visit as much as I can and have now stopped beating myself up for not being able to do all.
Happy WOYWW and I wish you a lovely week.

  16. I am shocked. I had realised that Past Times had vanished. I used to enjoy hunting round in there for special presents. I shall be watching to see the finished memo board. Thank you for your visit this week, and don't dither any more about the Gelli plate. It helped having such a brilliant teacher as Barbara Gray and I am definitely hooked and full of ideas I want to try out. If you want any more encouragement, just watch Barbara's classroom show from the beginning of August which you can find on Create and Craft website, where she taught Nigel May how to use it. Go for it and have fun. xx Maggie #12

  18. Oh I did have a giggle when you quoted the family question "what's that supposed to be?". Even though I am thousands of miles away I hear that same sentence issue from my family. Can't wait to see how your memo board works out, great ideas and lovely bright colours. I have just recently started following Paperartsy and I am amazed at the clever ideas. You can't go wrong.

The ruffle scarves are really simple, just 5 stitches an a couple of hours of quick knitting and they're done. Have a wonderful week in your hero cape!!

  28. Oh I loved Batman! and the memo board is turning out lovely. Way to repurpose/recycle/upcycle/whatever. And I do like (but don't LOVE) CC for that reason, she is playful and quirky in her design and the colours are always bright and vibrant. And I am coming around to orange so I like her ore now than once I did :)

    Happy WOYWW!

  32. I am a Clarice Cliff fan and have always been one and yes I do have a few pieces of the real deal, but if we all liked the same thing then it would be a boring world. I think you have some fantastic ideas and good for you, I look forward to seeing the end result.

  34. You made me smile with the old batman comment. I had a major crush on Robin back then, and would worry about "what would happen" next time. So funny. Love your mug, and I will check out the artists work as I am not familiar with it. But the style is right up my alley, I can see why you have your tea in that mug, too cute! Enjoy the week ahead, and thanks for the kind visit today! Winnie#84

  42. Hope you get your doors soon! I love Clarice Cliff but sadly can't afford any! I've started collecting pieces by Lorna Bailey instead. She's a more modern artist who paints china in the style of Clarice. Oh well, when I win the lottery, I can have the real thing!! Hugs. Pam#36

  44. LOL.....

I have a teenager wandering around at home these days constantly saying "I'm Batman" in a deep husky gravelly voice. Shame she's a girl! So, very topical and very amusing to see your post this week!

Love what you're working on though - Kevin needs a poke in the ribs and I think we'll all line up to do it, just so we can see what is going on in the kitchen and how it looks finished!

    Thanks for stopping by.

  45. As long as the episodes of your life don't have the bang, pow, whop similar to batman you are safe. It does unnerve the system though when you have so many things going through your head though doesn't it. I am loving your memo board and those inspired colors all come together beautifully I can't wait to see the finished piece. Thanks so much for your visit to my blog and in answer to your question, you can find details about the Mailbox Muse at mailboxmuse.com. Have a great week! Danie #62

Just email me your address when you've sorted out Outlook. If it is my address you are having trouble seeing, it's darnell dot knauss at g mail dot com. Have a great week!! Hugs, Darnell
